該当年度に実施した研究の成果は、「研究の目的」に設定した通り、魯迅、大江健三郎、島田雅彦の作品を通して、さらにM.バフチンなどの対話論を適応させながら、小説における責任/応答可能性の仕組みを分析したことである。研究の実質的主体であるGabrakova(外国人特別研究員)が2008年10月より香港城市大学人文及社会科学学院に助教授として赴任することになり、研究期間を当初の予定より大幅に短縮することになったため、研究成果はまだ活字になっていないが、英語と日本語で論文として発表する予定で、掲載誌も決まっており現在編集部において編集作業中である(刊行はともに今年度中の予定)。さらに2008年6月に開催された日本アジア研究会という国際学会で、沼野(研究代表者)とGabrakova(外国人特別研究員)のパネル参加を通して、本研究に極めて密接に関係している「ユートピア」のテーマをさらに追求した。続けてGabrakovaは6月末のカルチャータイフーン(仙台)、そしてメルボルン大学におけるTravel Literatureの国際学会でも研究発表を行った。また二人は共同で2008年7月11日に東京大学文学部において国際ワークショップ"World Literature and Translation"を組織し(報告および討論はすべて英語)、この研究テーマさらに発展させながら、外国人研究者2名、大学院生4名(報告者及びディスカッサントとして)の参加を得て、現代日本文学を世界文学と翻訳という文脈において検討した。全体としては、(1)現代日本文学を現代の文芸理論および世界文学の文脈において検討し(2)そのことによって小説の責任/応答可能性といった、これまであまり研究されてきなかった側面に新たな光を当て、現代小説の持つ潜在的な可能性の解明に貢献できたものと考える。
