Episodes of sleep apnea/hypopnea are associated with characteristic cyclic variation of heart rate (CVHR). We developed automated CVHR-detection algorithm named autocorrelated wave detection with adaptive threshold (ACAT). In 862 subjects referred to diagnostic polysomnography, the ACAT detected patients with moderate-to-severe sleep apnea with 83% sensitivity and 88% specificity.
