本研究の目的は、中世の禅院における塔の実態とその意味を、文献史料・絵図・文化財・跡地を調査することで、多角的に明らかにすることである。中世における禅院の塔を網羅的に検討し、その意味を考察するにあたり、文献史料の検討にくわえ、禅院を描いた絵図の検討と、文化財および跡地にみる遺構や周辺環境の検討といった、大きく二つの主題から考察してゆく。それにあたり平成20年度は、研究に関する資史料の収集および整理に重点をおき、既に入手している史料および関連する先行研究の整理を実施した。くわえて、文化財修理報告書・文化庁保存図面を事前に調査、検討したうえで、全国における禅院の塔の分布および残存状況、それぞれの特質と規模を確認、整理した。これに関連して、今年度は大慈恩寺・胎蔵寺・大山寺(千葉県)、長興寺・三明寺・東観音寺・観音寺・安国寺・薬師堂(愛知県・岐阜県)、大宝寺・本山寺・善通寺・讃岐国分寺・光勝院・切幡寺・最御崎寺・土佐国分寺・吸江寺・善光寺(愛媛県・香川県・徳島県・高知県)、明王院・安国寺・浄土寺・天寧寺・不動院(広島県)における遺構や跡地において、実測ならびに撮影を行った。以上、今年度は今後の研究に用いるための資史料収集と図化作業を中心に実施した。くわえて、今回の研究で得られた史料の一端を用いて、学会などの機会を利用して、本研究によって得られた成果を公表した。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of Buddhist temples in the Middle Ages, the significance of historical documents, cultural resources and sites, and the diversity of perspectives. In the middle ages, the temple's pagodas were included in the investigation, the meaning of the temple was investigated, the literature and historical materials were investigated, the temple was described in the investigation, the cultural property and the site were investigated, the environment was investigated, and the theme was investigated. The collection and arrangement of historical materials related to research in 2010 will be carried out in advance. The cultural property repair report and cultural preservation report were conducted in advance to investigate, examine, and confirm the distribution, survival, and characteristics of Buddhist temples nationwide. This year, the Great Tzuen Temple, Taizang Temple, Oyama Temple (Chiba Prefecture), Changxing Temple, Sanming Temple, Higashi-Gion Temple, ion Temple, Ankuoku Temple, Shishido Temple (Aichi Prefecture, Gifu Prefecture), Taibao Temple, Honsan Temple, Zendori Temple, Sanki Kokuben Temple, Kokushin Temple, Chibanji Temple, Saizaki Temple, Tosa Kokuben Temple, Sukieji Temple, Zenkoji Temple (Ehime Prefecture, Kagawa Prefecture, Tokushima Prefecture, Kochi Prefecture), Mingwangin, Ankuji Temple, Tsuchiji Temple, Tenningji Temple, Fudoin (Hiroshima Prefecture) This year, the center for future research and development will focus on the collection of historical data and the implementation of the project. The research of this paper is based on the use of historical materials and the opportunity of learning to use them.
