Our behavioral, neuropsychological and neuroimaging studies showed that the insular cortex and cingulate areas, as well as some areas within the prefrontal cortex, play critical roles in social emotion processing. These areas are also involved in monitoring autonomic body status, which is highly correlated with prospective memory performance and anxiety symptoms.
