本研究は父子関係・兄弟関係・養子関係の三つの観点から、平安貴族社会における家族のあり方を明らかにし、中世的な「家」の成立に伴う変化について考察することを目的とする。今年度は昨年度の成果を基にさらに分析を重ね、特に中世的「家」が成立する直前の十世紀から十一世紀前半にかけての元服と叙爵の変遷を中心に考察した。従来、父の地位に基づいて元服と同時に叙爵される元服同時叙爵は十世紀前半に摂関等子息の特権として成立し、十一世紀初頭には公卿層子息にまで広まったとされる。しかし実際に十世紀から十一世紀前半の元服と叙爵の関係を調べると、十一世紀前半の元服同時叙爵は摂関の近親者など一部の公卿子息に限定されており、一般公卿子息ではむしろ元服以前の叙爵が主流であったことがわかった。そしてこの時期の叙爵の変遷、特に元服前叙爵という変則的な叙爵の背景を解明することにより、元服と叙爵のタイミングが公卿層の中でも摂関との親疎によって異なっていたことが明らかとなった。また、こうした元服と叙爵の分析を通して、昨年度手がけた養子に関する分析もさらに深化させることができた。従来、家のための養子が成立するのは院政期とされてきた。しかし関白藤原頼通の養子信家(頼通同母弟教通一男)は摂関等子息の正妻子に相当する初叙を元服と同時に与えられており、頼通の後継とするために養子とされた可能性が考えられる。信家のケースが家のための養子であったとすれば、家のための養子の成立時期は一世紀ほどさかのぼることになる。本年度はこのように、叙爵や養子の問題から中世的「家」が成立する直前の社会変化の解明に取り組んだ。
