本年度は、引き続き「環境再生を通じた地域社会再生への取り組み」に関する事例調査およびその分析作業を進めた。実証面・理論面それぞれの実施状況は以下の通りである。実証面では、引き続き直島において調査を実施した。直島においては、昨年度に引き続き取り組みに関わる複数の住民へのインタビューの実施、関連文書資料の収集などを行い、分析のための基本資料とした。また、理論面では「環境再生による地域社会再生」という研究課題を分析するための枠組みとして、社会関係資本論、ボランティア・NPO論、ガバナンス論、コモンズ論、地域資本論などの研究動向を整理し、検討を進めた。これらの研究成果は学会発表という形で結実したが、具体的な内容は次の通りである。直島において、住民と現代アートを媒介として創造された景観との関係性を変容させる契機となった展覧会、スタンダード展について検討を行った。スタンダード展は、2001年に直島全体を会場に開催された展覧会である。このスタンダード展をきっかけとして、住民たちはガイド活動等に主体的に参画する姿勢を見せ、その後、島内の集落で展開されるプロジェクトにおいて、住民たちは重要な担い手となっていった。本研究ではスタンダード展における来訪者と住民との関わりに注目して検討を行い、次の二点を明らかにした。まず第一に住民の生活実践そのものが作品を成立させる重要な要素になっていたという点、第二に、住民はスタンダード展において独自の案内、語りを実施することを通じて、作品の解釈自由性という現代アートの特性に気づいたという点である。この研究結果を「アートプロジェクトの展開と住民の認識変容過程-香川県直島における「スタンダード」展を事例として一」としてまとめ第68回西日本社会学会大会において報告を実施した。
