项目摘要

本年度はまず、前年度までに達成された研究成果の更なる発展を目標として研究を進めた。第一に後期ローマ帝国政治史に関する重要史料であるアンミアヌス・マルケリヌス『歴史』に関する先行研究の調査を進めることとし、5月23日から6月1日にかけて、イギリスのロンドン大学古典学研究所において文献調査を実施した。この調査によって国内では入手不可能であった多数の史料・研究文献を収集することができた。第二に昨年政治史的観点から分析を加えたシルウァヌス反乱事件に関して、文学史的観点からの分析を改めて加えた。この事件に関してはアンミアヌスの記述がその後の歴史叙述において受容されたことが判明している。本研究では、アンミアヌスの記述が事件の当事者による直接的証言であることと、ギリシア・ラテン語歴史叙述の伝統においてはそのような証言が信憑性を持つとして重視されたことに注目し、アンミアヌス記述を受容した後代のキリスト教徒著作家が、実は古代の伝統を継受する存在であることを明らかにした。この研究成果を国際会議にて口頭報告し、高い評価を得た。第三に後期ローマ帝国における書記官の活動について考察した。書記官は本来皇帝に仕える速記係であったが、時に罪人の逮捕などの特別任務に従事していた。本研究では特にコンスタンティウス2世支配期に活動した「鎖」のパウルスに注目し、その活動の実態を再構成するとともに、アンミアヌスによる記述の執筆意図にも考察を加えた。その結果、パウルスの特別任務の実態を詳細に再構成することに成功し、加えてアンミアヌスの記述に同時代史料が影響を与えた可能性をも見出すことができた。

This year's research achievements have been improved compared with the previous year's. The first is to conduct a literature survey on important historical materials related to the political history of the late imperial period from May 23 to June 1 at the Institute of Classical Studies of the University. This investigation is impossible for most of the historical materials and research literature to be collected. The second is the analysis of the political history of the past year and the analysis of the literary history. This event is related to the description of the event, and the description of the event. This study focuses on the credibility of direct testimonies of the parties involved in the event and the existence of ancient testimonies. The results of this research were presented orally at international conferences and evaluated by senior officials. The third is the investigation of the activities of the scandal officials in the late period of the empire. The official of the court was originally the emperor's shorthand system, and when the criminal was arrested, he had special responsibility. This study focuses on the re-construction of the "lock" and the "status" of the activity during the second generation. The results of the special task are detailed in this paper, and the influence of contemporary historical materials is discussed.
