项目摘要

計画の二年目である今年度は、380年代～420年代のガリア南部における皇帝権力の交代と、それに伴う教会組織内部の政治抗争・人事再編過程の解明を試みた。その過程で行なった具体的作業は以下の3点である。1．この時期のガリア南部教会における司教の顔ぶれを『後期帝国キリスト教人物誌』に基づいて確認し、その変遷を追った。2．4世紀ガリアにおける教会会議決議録を読解し、教会内政治抗争の様相を検討した。3．この時期のローマ司教たちの手紙、特にゾシムス（司教位417-418）の手紙を重点的に読解し、ガリア教会に対するその態度を検討した。以上の作業から得られた情報をもとに、内戦前後の皇帝権力の担い手や地理的行政区分の変化が教会構成員を変える歴史的過程を整理し、学会発表を行なった。この発表と議論を経て、論文として成果をまとめるにはトピックと問題設定のさらなる絞り込みが必要と判断し、当時の帝国政治と教会政治とのかかわりを特にどの時点に注目し、どの視点から分析するかを再検討した。その結果、5世紀初頭の皇帝コンスタンティヌス3世による教会内人事への介入を、380年代以降のガリア教会政治の文脈に位置づけることで、この事例に従来とは異なる解釈を与えうると結論できた。また、前年度に引き続き6世紀の歴史家ヨルダネスの作品『ゲティカ』の翻訳・註釈作成を行なった。今年度はゴート人とローマ帝国との接触、およびいわゆる「3世紀の危機」を語る67節から130節までを訳出した。その過程で、3世紀の歴史家デクシッポスの著作『スキュティカ』およびその新出断片について調査し、文章にまとめ、『ゲティカ』訳註のまえがきとして付した。この成果はすでに学術誌に投稿し、査読中である。
