在岛根大学校园的温室里饲养了一种基本上是独居的两栖蜜蜂Lasioglossum scitulum的雌性蜜蜂。这些人工巢还被用来控制幼虫的食量，以人工产生“较小”的雌性幼虫。年生活史一般发生在温室内的小笼内。通过使用本研究中新开发的人工巢，获得了较小的雌性。较小的雌性在孵化期间产生的细胞数量相对较少。

Females of a bivoltine, basically solitary bee, Lasioglossum scitulum were reared in the greenhouse at the campus of Shimane University. The artificial nests were also used to manipulate the amount of larval food to produce "smaller" females artificially. The annual life cycle occurred at the small cage normally in the greenhouse. By using the newly developed artificial nest in this study, smaller females were obtained. The smaller females produed relatively low number of cells during the brood rearing period.
