This study has demonstrated that many of the words and grammar points Japanese learners of English see and learn in their junior and senior high school textbooks can be used to solve problems they encounter in expressing ideas for which they do not know or fail to activate words and/or grammar points by using whatever alternative linguistic resources they have at their disposal. Based on an analysis of the words and grammar points in the textbooks which are potentially useful for paraphrase, the study has also produced a material for teaching and learning paraphrase, from Grades 7 to 12, as a communication strategy to compensate for unavailable words and/or grammar points.

本研究表明，日本英语学习者在初中和高中教科书中看到和学习的许多单词和语法点可以用来解决他们在表达思想时遇到的问题，他们不知道或无法激活单词和/或语法点，通过使用他们所掌握的任何替代语言资源。本研究在分析了教科书中对释义有潜在帮助的词汇和语法点的基础上，编制了一份供7至12年级学生进行释义教学和学习的教材，作为一种交际策略，以弥补无法使用的词汇和/或语法点。
