Robert Herrick's Idyllic World : Lyricism and Social Criticism in Hesperides

In this research, I attempted to strengthen my argument about the function as political propaganda for the Cavaliers in Herrick's Hesperides(1648). My research built on work by Leah S. Marcus and Marjorie Swann and took the political situation of the time into consideration to provide a new perspective. With the conclusion of my research project(Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, 2008-2009 :"Robert Herrick's Hesperides and Social Turmoil in Seventeenth-Century England"), I have continued to examine the fusion of lyricism and social criticism in the poems of Herrick to better understand how these factors coexist without undermining each other's value and analyze them both political and aesthetic points of view.
