This research has studied, in low-budget crime films called Film Noir made in the 1940 and 1950s in the U.S., how male protagonists face obesession that derives from his own unconscious and destroys himself in the urban milieu that is so hostile to him. In this cinematic process, his unconscious joins with the urban milieu directly, avoiding his consciousness, and they form the concept=system that may be called "the Unconscious-City." This concept=system operates to persecute male protagonist and, because he is not aware of this working, he almost cannot avoid his ruination. Hostile natures of cities arise from this concept. In Film Noir's urban representations, as it were, his unconscious is exteriorized.
