An investigation was made into the challenges facing mentally handicapped people who live alone in a local community in their daily lives. These results were gathered, and the checklist of "Housing Management Abilities" necessary when a mentally handicapped person lives alone was created.More than housing management, interpersonal relationships, meals, the ability to cope in a crisis, well-regulated living, and money management prove to be a larger problem in daily life.In addition, an investigation was made into the support system for disaster prevention, crime prevention, and emergency aid for mentally handicapped people. In some municipalities, a support system for improvements for earthquake-proofing, diagnosis of earthquake resistance, anti-tip furniture, and setup of fire alarms/automatic fire extinguishers was available. However, as there is a discrepancy between municipalities, it was deemed necessary for these systems to be spread further and made common knowledge.
