项目摘要

本年度はまず,上古中国の伝世文献や楚簡等の出土文献に見える「名詞+而+動詞」構文の「而」の機能に着目し,研究を遂行した。従来この「而」は仮定の接続詞である「若/如」と解釈されてきたが,報告者はこの種の例文の「而」前の成分と後ろの成分の意味的関係が話し手や聞き手の有する前提(presupposition)や知識を裏切るようなものであることに着目し,この語は聞き手にとって前の成分から後ろの成分が予測し難いものであること,言い換えれば,前項と後項の関係に「意外性」があることを,話し手が聞き手に対し注意喚起する時に用いられる「注意喚起の談話マーカー」と結論付けた。さらに,予測困難な事態というのは,現実世界-仮想世界の中では,仮想世界の領域に近いところに属するものであり,仮想世界とは,想像の世界の事態であるという点において,仮定文と親和性が高いことから,結果として「名詞+而+動詞」の「而」が伝統的に仮定の接続詞「若/如」と解釈されてきたと,報告者は考えた。この他,非現実事態を構成するモダリティマーカーの「其」についての研究も行った。これは本研究課題「出土資料からみた上古中国語の通時的研究一非現実的事態に関わる表現について_」の下,2011年度に遂行した研究の続きで,前年が春秋戦国時代を対象としたものであるのに対し,今年度は時代を遡った西周時代,具体的には出土資料である金文や,伝世文献である『書経』『詩経』を対象にした。報告者は研究の結果,西周時代の「其」も,春秋戦国時代の「其」と同様,述べる事態をirrealis(非現実》の領域に置くための語であるが,双方間にやや意味の違いがあることを発見した。双方の意味の差については,時代を経たことによる意味変化を報告者は想定する。
