High-power, injection-seeded Ti:sapphire laser designed for frequency conversion of a 200-W diode-laser pumped laser system

The subject of this proposal is the development of two of the three components of a high-performance laser transmitter for water vapor remote sensing. The third component, a unique pump laser of formerly unachieved power is the subject of proposal 1 within this package proposal. To be compatible with a pump source of such a high single-shot pulse energy, extremely high requirements are set to the two remaining components, the frequency converter and the frequency stabilization modules. The first module ist a pulsed 20-W average power, 10 % overall efficiency Ti:sapphire laser. The second is novel dual-frequency, tunable injection-seeder module ensuring the maintenance of the requirements with respect to the spectral properties of the Ti:sapphire laser. For future routine and operational measurements on different platforms it is essential to reach this power level which exceeds current systems by one of magnitude. Innovative research with respect to thermal modeling and compensation of thermal effects of Ti:sapphire will be performed. Advanced resonator configurations will be developed permitting laser operation with optimized energy extraction efficiency, high beam quality and with the spectral properties required for differential absorption lidar (DIAL) measurements.
