项目摘要

本研究の目的は、ケニアの諸キリスト教が国家統合を助長する機能を果たしているという仮説をたて、現代ケニア社会では、民族中心主義が社会階層格差とどのように向き合っているのかを検討することにある。この目的を達成するために、当該年度は、（１）平成28年度までに収集したデータの整理、（２）現地調査の遂行、（３）海岸地方のキリスト教に関するデータの収集・整理、（４）総選挙に関する新聞資料の収集・整理、（５）研究会および学術誌における研究成果の発表、および今後の成果報告に向けた準備を中心に研究活動をおこなった。これまでのデータ整理後、平成28年7月～9月、「国家と宗教の関係性」を強く示す事例である大統領選挙、並びにイスラム教が支配的な地域でのキリスト教のあり方に関する調査を遂行した。まず、2007年末から2008年初めにかけて起こった選挙後暴力（PEV）に関する国民の意識を調査するため、その被害者およびその暴力に関わった人びとへの聞き取り調査をおこなった。そして、第11回目の総選挙（2013年）の時期の国民意識を調査するため、教会における聞き取り調査をおこなった。これらの調査から、2007/8年の惨事を二度と繰り返さないように、過去を反省し、悔い改めることが、個人のみならず国家として求められていたことが明らかになった。平成28年度後半には、新聞調査をおこない、2007/8年の選挙後のメディアの反応、知識人らのオピニオンや一般市民からの投書などを重点的に収集した。市井の人びとが、2007/8年選挙後暴力の惨事をふまえ、今後の「国民」統合に向けた動向をキリスト教的価値観から見出そうとしているという調査結果を、Sociology Association（ケニア）にて口頭発表をおこない、ケニアにおけるキリスト教と文化の関係性にかんして展開した構想を、関西学院大学先端社会研究所発行『KG社会学批評』にて発表した。
