平成29年度には、名誉を巡る社会規範に対するアテナイ住民の態度について検討を深めた。平成29年度前半には、前5世紀後半以降、個人の名誉を強調する墓碑が墓域にしばしば設置されるようになった背景を探るために、墓域を所有する一族のプロソポグラフィを網羅的に検討した。その結果、前4世紀以降次第に個人の名誉が社会的に再評価される中で、縁者の名誉のアピールによって一族の社会的地位の維持を図る住民の姿勢が浮かび上がった。特に社会での継続的活動が見られる市民一族の墓域に、上述のような墓碑が複数設置されている事例が散見されたのである。続いて平成29度後半には、個別の墓碑にスポットを当てて、名誉の表現についてより詳細な検討を加えた。その結果、記念の対象が市民か外国人かに関わらず、特に前4世紀以降に作成された墓碑に、同時期の名誉をめぐる社会規範との相互関係が窺われた。例えば、住民の墓碑に現れる名誉の表現には、同時期の顕彰碑文で被顕彰者を讃える際に用いられる表現との類似性を確認できた。その一方で、賃金労働を厭う市民的価値観を反映してか、職業名の表記や職業上の名誉の強調は原則外国人墓碑に限定されていた。職業はアテナイと血縁上のつながりがない外国人にとって社会のIDとして機能し、また彼ら特有の職業的名誉は一族の住民としての地位の確保に寄与したと思われる。このように、表現やその意図に市民との間で違いが見られるものの、外国人の墓碑からは、彼らもまた住民として、顕彰碑文から窺えるような名誉をめぐる社会規範を参照しつつ、亡くなった縁者の名誉を他の住民にアピールしようとした姿勢を読み取ることができよう。なお平成29年4月16日～平成30年1月31日の間、The British School at AthensのRegular Memberとして所属し、ギリシアに滞在する研究者と、研究について意見交換した。
