本研究は，がん患者の心理社会的サポートサービスに対する援助要請行動の促進要因・阻害要因を把握し，心理社会的サポートサービスの利用を促進するためのサービス開発を目的とした。これまでの研究の結果より，各利用ステージで心理社会的サポートサービスの利用に影響する要因が異なることがわかった。したがって，例えば，利用ステージごと合ったメッセージ，つまり，テーラードメッセージを用いて重要他者からの勧めがあると，効果的に問題を抱えるがん患者を心理社会的サポートサービスの利用につなぐことができると考えた。そこで，がん患者の心理社会的サポートサービスの利用を促進するためのサービスとして， 3つの利用ステージ（無関心期（適応），無関心期（適応障害・大うつ病），関心期）に対してそれぞれテーラードメッセージを用いたチラシを作成し，その効果を検討することを目的とした。外来通院中のがん患者を対象とし，インターネット調査を実施した。Time1の調査において，各利用ステージに対して，チラシなし群，チラシ（コントロールデザイン）群，チラシ（テーラードデザイン）群を設け，対象者をランダムに振り分けて，医療スタッフまたは家族から渡されたと教示した上で，チラシを提示した。約1ヶ月後に追跡調査を行った。各利用ステージにおけるチラシの効果を検討するためにχ2検定を行った。その結果、いずれのステージにおいても、利用者数とチラシの種類との間に有意な関連は見られなかった。しかしながら，関心期においてのみ，有意ではないものの，テーラードデザインのチラシ群の利用者数が他の群より多かった。これらの結果の背景には，特に無関心期においてメッセージが利用ステージに合っていなかったこと，Time2のデータ収集時期がTime1から約1ヶ月後と早かったこと，実際の他者からの利用勧奨の影響の強さがあると考えられる。
