项目摘要

大阪中之島美術館(研究当初の名称は大阪新美術館。昨年10月名称変更)建設準備室の協力を得て、同室が所蔵する大量の記録写真と映像を調査し、被写体(人物や作品)の確認作業を行った。その結果、これまで判然としなかった具体美術展や海外での企画展の出品作を特定することや、パーティー等の集まりの写真や映像から「具体」をめぐる文化的環境(リーダーの吉原治良の母校である関西学院出身者を中心とする大阪・神戸のモダニズム人脈)を裏付けることができた。また、「具体」が活動の情報発信にいかにして写真や映像、印刷物といったメディアを戦略的、自覚的に活用したかについて、吉原の戦前・戦中期の作品や九室会の活動と写真との関係性にその原点をさぐりつつ考察を深めた。戦前期の活動については、長谷川三郎、福沢一郎、瑛九といった同時代の他の前衛美術家たちの写真・映像メディアとの関わりと比較し、共通点、相違点の検討も行った。さらには、アーカイブズ学を専門にする大阪中之島美術館準備室の学芸員をアメリカに派遣し、アーカイブの先進事例を調査して、日本の現代美術に関する文化資源の活用方法を研究した。その成果の一部は、大阪中之島美術館準備室が組織し、本研究の研究者と外部有識者で構成された「具体美術協会関係資料データベース化有識者会議」での提言に反映させた。調査した写真や映像のデータベース構築とインターネットでのデータの公開については、映像のみ実現できたが(http://www.nak-osaka.jp/gutai_accessibility/gutai_films.pdf)、写真については、研究代表者の死去により未完に終わった。
