本年度も継続して関東大震災以前、震災直後、震災からの復興期それぞれの時期に製作された映画作品の検証を併行して行なうことで日本における無声映画黄金期の実態解明研究を行った。研究の成果は、6月に開催された初期映画研究の国際学会ドミトール(15thTH International Domitor Conference, Rochester, NY, The Dryden Theatre 2018)において“How Newspaper Novels and Their Illustrations Shaped Japanese Films”のタイトルで口頭発表し、学会後は、NYコロンヒビア大学東アジア図書館所蔵のマキノコレクションを調査した。7月には同じく日本の初期映画に関する口頭発表を、ICU国際基督教大学で開催されたAsian Studies Conference Japan ICU 2018において“Shinpa Films and Traditional Japanese Mass Entertainment Culture”のタイトルで行った。本年度は、無声映画に付随した音声、そこから発展したサウンド映画についての研究も進め、4月に日本大学芸術学部で開催されたポスター展『松竹蒲田作品「島の娘」(1933)と第36回ポルデノーネ無声映画祭』において、5月は、東京工芸大学で開催された日本映像学会第44回大会において、『「新派的な音色」の行方、松竹現代劇映画とSP盤映画説明レコード『二人静』(1935) の検証を通して』、のタイトルで口頭発表を行った。またドミトールで発表した内容は査読を経て、2019年発行予定の学会紀要誌に掲載が決定した。
