项目摘要

本年度は女官を指す「命婦」についての考察を行った。分析対象としては正倉院文書を主たる対象として用い、宣者として表れる女官を分析した。そもそも後宮職員令で宣伝に奉仕することになっているのは、内侍司である。しかし正倉院文書の中で宣者として表れる女官には、命婦・内侍・采女・女孺などさまざまな身分があることがすでに指摘されているがこれらの女官は、日常的な天皇（太上天皇・皇后）からの宣伝機能を律令の規定のみで見ることはできない。内侍・命婦以下の身分である女孺・采女らが宣者となるのは、光明皇后か淳仁天皇との関係が悪化し距離を置いた孝謙太上天皇からの場合であることも分かった。今回の分析では奈良時代において天皇以外でも自身の宮でそれぞれ近侍者集団を形成していたが、史料的制約から実態の解明は進んでこなかった点にも注目した。天皇らの宣を伝える＝それぞれに近侍する女官という性格付けは十分可能であると考え、分析した結果、天皇・太上天皇の宣者となる女官は「内侍」「命婦」の身分呼称を持つものが中心であるが、皇后の宣者は「命婦」に限定されることが判明した。また「内侍」「命婦」呼称が併存する場合も「命婦」の方が優先される傾向にあることが明らかになった。これにより後宮十二司の内侍司が皇后宮には出向していなかったことが追認されたとともに、「命婦」の存在の重要性を指摘した。「命婦」は令制に五位以上の女官と規定があるが、後宮十二司に属さない女官にも与えられる身分呼称であり、女房―女官体制でも女房に組み込まれており、奈良平安時代を通じて高級女官であった。五位ラインが階層を区分する指標であることは女官に限るものではないが、男官と異なり無位から五位への直叙が存在する女官においてはより重要視すべきであることを明らかにできた。
