平成29年度は、前年度に引き続いて、1. 都道府県・市区町村の選挙データの整備と、2. 都道府県議会議員の議員行動データの整備を進めるとともに、3. 市区町村の議会データの収集を並行して行った。1. については、2011年から2015年までに執行された全市区町村長選挙のデータセットを完成させることができた。このデータセットを用いて、日本政治学会・分野別研究会の日本政治過程研究会と日本政治学会研究大会で、日本の自書式投票制度が選挙結果に及ぼす影響について報告を行った。分析結果では、自書式投票が記号式投票に比べて無効投票を増加させること、とりわけ複数の選挙が同時執行される場合には、他の選挙の候補者名を誤って投票用紙に記入してしまうために無効投票が生じやすいことを明らかにした。また、一部の行政区で電子投票の導入実績のある京都市長選挙の選挙データを収集し、日本学術会議政治学委員会政治過程分科会主催の学術シンポジウムで電子投票の制度効果に関する報告も行った。1985年から2016年までの京都市長選挙の行政区別の詳細な選挙結果を分析したところ、電子投票が点字投票や代理投票を減少させる（代替する）など、投票の利便性を高める可能性が明らかになった。2. については、2007年から2015年までの全都道府県議会議員のデータ収集を続けており、次年度の日本政治学会研究大会での報告を準備しているところである。加えて、3. 既存の市区町村議会の議会改革データを整理し、選挙競争度の低下が議会活動に及ぼす影響について分析を進めた。上記の研究成果のうち、今年度報告済みの論文については海外の査読付き学術誌への論文投稿を予定している。
