全国3,980の図書館を中心とする文化学術機関を対象に，古典籍デジタルアーカイブを運営しているかどうか，および実施状況について簡単な質問紙調査を実施した。回収率は41.73%であった。古典籍を所蔵する機関は調査対象機関の約半数であり，このうち古典籍デジタルアーカイブを運営する機関は約3割であった。ただし計画中を含めると約4割となる。1,000点以上の古典籍を収録する古典籍デジタルアーカイブ(33%)よりも，1,000点未満の収録数にとどまる中小規模の古典籍デジタルアーカイブが多かった(64%)。これらの中小規模の古典籍デジタルアーカイブをいかに連携，あるいは包括的に検索できるようにするかが今後の課題であると考えられる。上記調査で古典籍デジタルアーカイブに漢籍画像を含むと回答した機関，および上記調査には回答がなかったものの，他の資料から漢籍を対象としたデジタルアーカイブを運営中であることが明らかな機関計103機関に対し，漢籍デジタルアーカイブの運営状況をより詳しく尋ねるための質問紙調査を行った。並行して，11機関に対する訪問調査を行った。調査対象となった76件の漢籍デジタルアーカイブの中で，四部分類がついているのは12件，版種は24件と少なく，いわゆる漢籍的な整理のされ方がなされていなかった。また，多くの機関が他機関との連携をそもそも念頭に置いていないこともうかがえた。整理基準も独自のものを使っている機関が多く，書誌の項目が統一されていなかった。多くの機関が，漢籍に関する知識の不足を自機関の問題点として認識しており，実際に漢籍の知識のある職員あるいはアドバイスをしてくれる教員等が不在のまま，書誌データを作成している機関があることも確認された。以上のように，本研究によって，漢籍デジタルアーカイブの連携を難しくしている要因を整理することができた。
