ブラジルポルトガル語話者を対象とした研究において，発話中で頻繁に疑問文を使用する母親の子どもは産出語彙数が多くなることが報告されている(Goncavles Barbosa, et al., 2016)。しかし，この結果がその他の言語でも普遍的に見られる傾向かどうかは定かではない。また，yes/no疑問文とwh疑問文がまとめて分析されており，子どもの言語獲得に対する疑問文の特徴を知るにはこの結果だけでは不十分と考えた。そこで本研究では，日本語話者を対象に，母親の疑問文発話が子どもの言語発達に与える影響を明確にするための縦断調査を行った。日本語を母語とする母子26組は，子どもが14ヶ月，19ヶ月，27ヶ月の時に研究に参加した。子どもが14ヶ月と19ヶ月の時は，実験室にて動画視聴課題と産出語彙数の測定を行ない，27ヶ月の時は，郵送にて産出語彙数の測定を行った。14ヶ月時点での母親の疑問文使用割合が19ヶ月，27ヶ月時点での子どもの産出語彙数に与える影響を検討するため，14ヶ月時点での産出語彙数を調整したスピアマンの偏順位相関係数を算出した結果，19ヶ月，27ヶ月共に5%水準で有意な相関は見られなかった。また，19ヶ月時点での母親の疑問文使用割合が27ヶ月時点での子どもの産出語彙数に与える影響を検討するため，19ヶ月時点での産出語彙数を調整したスピアマンの偏順位相関係数を算出した結果，19ヶ月時点のwh疑問文の使用割合と，27ヶ月時点の産出語彙数の間に5%水準で有意な相関が見られた。本研究の結果は，疑問文の使用割合の多い母親の子どもの産出語彙数が多くなることを示し，母親の疑問文が子どもの語彙発達に与える影響に言語普遍性がある可能性を示した。加えて，wh疑問文のみで母親の疑問文発話の長期的な影響が見られたことで，疑問文の種類によって子どもの産出語彙数への影響に違いがあることも示した。
