项目摘要

（１）日本古代から中世にかけての顕密兼学寺院の動向を捕捉するため、勧修寺を事例に、その歴史的展開を分析した。その結果、勧修寺においては、十一世紀前半を画期として、新たに密教を紐帯とした寺院運営形態が構築されたことが解明された。こうした変化は、十一世紀第Ⅰ四半世紀における藤原彰子との結びつきを端緒として、寺家別当が国家や檀越氏族から相対的自立を図る過程でもたらされたものであり、勧修寺が古代の「氏寺」から、中世的な密教寺院へと変貌し始めたことを示すものと解される。これまで勧修寺の中世的転回は、密教の門流としての勧修寺流の成立時期である十二世紀第Ⅰ四半世紀に引き付けて論じられてきたが、それを遡る十一世紀の動向こそがそうした現象の起点となったことが明確になった。本成果は、川内古代史研究会と佛教史学会大会にて発表した。（２）勧修寺と同様に顕密を兼学した安祥寺を取り上げ、九世紀から十二世紀に至るまでの動向を分析した。東京大学史料編纂所・京都大学総合博物館において史料調査を実施するとともに、東寺観智院金剛蔵聖教の紙焼史料を入手し、それらの読解を進めた。その結果、従来不明瞭であった安祥寺座主職の動向が明らかになり、中世へと連なる座主職の師資相承が十一世紀第Ⅱ四半世紀頃より展開していたことが確認された。また、昨年度に執筆した伝法阿闍梨の性格変容に関する論考「平安期真言宗と伝法阿闍梨」が本年度に至って公表されたが、上記の成果はそれと整合的に接続するものであり、十一世紀安祥寺の歴史的位置を明確にするものとなった。（３）昨年度に引き続き、日本古代から中世にかけての仏教政策について、東アジア諸国との比較を念頭に置きながら史料収集を進めた。昨年度以来の中国史料に加えて、本年度は朝鮮史料を調査範囲に組み込んだ。その結果、移行期における仏教の出現形式の相互比較を可能にし得る史料を見出すことが出来た。
