本調査研究は，砂漠化対策として農地の緑地化と残存農地での農業生産構造の転換（1999年～）が進められてきた中国・黄土高原農村において，現地調査および種々のデータ解析を行い，政策実施後の農村環境，農業的土地利用の持続可能性を多角的に検証し，今後の最適化のあり方を検討するものである。本研究では，その評価軸として，既往研究の成果も踏まえて①村・世帯間の経済格差や貧困問題と地形，立地条件との関係，②食糧生産の外部依存の進行に伴う食糧供給上のリスクおよび既存評価法の課題点，③農業に係る化学的環境負荷，の３つを設定し，陝西省延安市呉起県等を対象地として研究を進める。本年度は，まず，主要対象地および黄土高原農村全土における砂漠化対策としての農業生産構造の転換の推移と要因を，機密解除資料や種々の地方統計情報，インタビュー結果，GIS等を用いて体系的・定量的に明らかにし，博士学位論文の一部として掲載した（2019年度公開）。また，研究成果の社会への還元として，京都大学で開催された「京都大学アカデミックデイ2019」に出展し，これまでの成果について他分野の研究者，市民に向けて発表と展示，意見交換を行い，成果を広く理解してもらえるよう努めた（2019年9月）。加えて，2018年7月に掲載された商業誌の総説論文について，編集部の依頼により2019年8月に転載された。これは，村・世帯間の経済格差や貧困問題と地形，立地条件との関係，食糧生産の外部依存の進行に伴う食糧供給上のリスクと既存評価法の課題点に関するこれまでの成果をまとめた論文である。なお，冬季に実施予定であった現地学術研究機関での取りまとめの共同調査，講演については，新型コロナウイルスの影響により中止した。当該研究費の補助終了後にはなるが，状況が好転し次第，改めて実施する予定である。
