本年度は、スマトラ島メダンのクリスチャン・バタックに対象を絞り、冠婚葬祭産業の事業者に対する聞き取り調査に基づく資料収集を行った。今年度も、コロナウィルス感染症の流行に伴う渡航の制限を考慮し、現地における研究協力者の協力を仰ぎ、密接に連絡を取り合いながら聞き取りを委託する形での調査となった。具体的には11月から3月までの5か月の間に冠婚葬祭業に従事する23事業者(11月6事業者、12月2事業者、1月4事業者、2月8事業者、3月3事業者）に対して構造化インタヴューを行い、その結果を文字に起こして保存するという作業を行った。業種としては棺販売2、テーラー3、ケータリング3、美容室3、花4、音楽2、飾り付け3、その他3となっている。インタヴューでは仕事の内容や規模のほか、仕事を始めた経緯やほかの業種とのつながりなどについて聞いている。また、COVID-19拡大に伴う事業への影響についても質問をおこない、今回の感染症の拡大と行動制限がインドネシアの儀礼文化にいかなる影響を与えたかについても考察できるよう配慮をしている。今後はこれを分析し、代表者による現地調査の結果もふまえて成果をまとめていきたい。
