2022年度は、2021年度に引き続き、質問に対して述語を繰り返す形で返答する場合に現れる、命題が真であることを強調するverum focusについて考察を行なった。55th Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaeaにおいて、ドイツ語、コンチュコスケチュア語、バントゥー諸語、ポルトガル語などさまざまな言語のverumに関するワークショップHow to Mark the Truth: Cross-Linguistic Approach to Verumが開かれ、私も日本語に関する発表を行った。日本語では、真偽値をもつ平叙文に限らず、命令文や勧誘表現においても述語の繰り返しによる強調表現が現れることに着目し、verum focusを発話の力の強調のひとつの表れとして捉える可能性を提示した。すなわち、verum focusは平叙文における話者の発話の力である「断定」の強調であると考えられ、命令文や勧誘表現の背後にある発話の力もverumと同じように述語の繰り返しによって強調されうることを示した。これは、verumの解釈が文のmoodの強勢から得られるというLohnstein (2016)やKocher(2022)の仮説を日本語のデータを用いて支持するもので、当初考えられていたよりも広い観点からverumを捉え直す試みである。また、verum focusをもつ文が同時に程度の強調の解釈を許す場合があることから、Ishihara (2019)で提案した仕組みを拡張し、Speech Act headにある解釈不可能な素性が一致する解釈可能な素性の起こる位置によって、verum focusの解釈になるのか程度の強調の解釈になるのかが決まるという提案を行なった。
