2022年度は、新型コロナウイルスに関する移動制限が大幅に緩和されたため、ありがたいことに多くの現地調査を実行することが出来た。特に、ヨーロッパとアフリカに関する調査が出来たことは、研究の進捗に大きな好影響を与えた。アフリカでは南アフリカ共和国を中心に、アパルトヘイトとネルソン・マンデラの足跡を辿りつつ、この地がダークツーリズムの対象であるとともに、地元が脱アパルトヘイトの歴史を非常に大切にしているという点について理解を深めることが出来た。ソウェト地区のスラムツーリズムの研究は邦文文献がほとんどないため、今回の調査が重要な意味を持った。日本国内においても、主に原爆ドーム周辺や九州北部の産業遺産を対象として、現地調査を展開した。どちらにおいても、現地事情に詳しい方々からご案内をいただき、地域での受け止め方を精査することが出来た。前者では、被爆地となる以前に巨大軍事都市として機能していた広島の歴史をどのように織り込んで来訪者にガイドするのかという観点から調査を行った。後者では、炭鉱における事故や健康被害というまさにダークツーリズムの対象を地域がどのように受け止め、後世に引き継いでいくのかという視点からフィールドワークを試みた。国際連携としては、日本のダークツーリズムに関心を寄せるハーバード大学やロンドン大学の関係者と連絡を密に取り、一部で同行調査も行った。研究発表としては、進化経済学会において中間的な報告を行い、最終年度の研究へと繋げることができた。
