项目摘要

アフリカのサバンナにおいてシロアリ塚は生物多様性の維持に貢献し、今後の環境変動下では生態系の脆弱性を低下させる一因となることが指摘されている。しかし、シロアリ塚が生物多様性を維持する詳細なメカニズムは十分明らかになっていない。本研究は、以下の3つの目的を持ち、データベースや関係機関からの情報収集および現地調査により明らかにしていく。【目的①】南部アフリカ各地の環境要因の分析から、シロアリ塚-植物関係の地域差の要因を明らかにする、また、【目的②】動物によるシロアリ塚利用の調査から、シロアリ塚の採食地・営巣地としての重要性を明らかにする。さらに、【目的③】ナミビア北東部において住民の自然資源利用と農業活動を調査し、シロアリ塚の提供する生態系サービスを評価する。これらの研究成果を現地に還元し、生物多様性保全や地域振興につなげる。2022年度は、世界的なコロナウィルスの蔓延は落ち着いてきたものの、アフリカでは引き続き警戒心が強く、外部からの人の訪問を歓迎していない。ナミビア北東部の調査地における調査助手とは定期的に連絡を取っているが、コロナ感染状況に加えて、社会的な状況から、調査地への訪問は延期したほうがよいという助言から、2022年度はナミビアへの渡航は行わなかった。2022年度は、目的①に係る調査及びデータの分析を進めた。また、これまでの調査の結果を書籍（「土の塔」に木が生えて　シロアリ塚からはじまる小さな森の話　京都大学学術出版会）としてまとめ、2023年4月に刊行となった。
