本課題は、中国漢文を起源とし日本で独自の語法・文法・文体を成立させた、「変体漢文」の言語学的研究である。日本語史の観点で貴重な資料であるが、これまで実態記述や考察が十分に行われてこなかった。変体漢文は多種多様で、時代もスタイルも多層的であり、その中で本研究では、語法や語彙の面で比較的均一の「鎌倉幕府裁許状」を中心的な資料に据えている。これを一つの基準とし、時代やスタイルを異にする他のタイプとの比較を進展させる計画である。本年度は、「鎌倉幕府裁許状」700通超に使用されている語彙の特性、語義について解明するため、日本史学の研究者の協力を得て語彙のリスト化作業を進めた。現時点で、関東裁許状のうち約160通分についての入力作業を終えている（翌年度も継続予定）。当作業の当初の目的は、裁許状に使用されている語彙とその語義をデータベース化し学界に供することであったが、入力作業の進展に伴い、使用語彙の実態を数量的に解明する基盤にもなることがわかった。今後、その分析にも着手する。また一方、一点ずつ文書を調べ、裁許状の文法と語彙等について解明する手法も併用して研究を進めた。関東裁許状379通を資料に、多用される特徴的な文法形式に着目し、用例の収集を行った。収集した用例に基づき、現在、複数の形式について並行して分析を進めており、次年度、論文を執筆する計画である。加えて、他の研究者との交流を通して、個々の文法形式の用法以外に、構文や統語的な特徴においても分析すべき対象を見出したので、今後、研究を行う。同じく、鎌倉幕府裁許状の中で、六波羅探題発給文書ならびに鎮西探題発給文書に、関東裁許状とは文法や語彙の面で異なる点を見出したので、今後、その異同についても分析を進める。
