本研究は、律令国家が形成される７世紀後半から８世紀の織物生産における女性労働の実態を明らかにすることを目的とし、出土紡織具や織物（蚕を素材とする絹・綿、麻を素材とする布）の分析に即して、生産技術を復元し、出土木簡や墨書土器などの文字資料を踏まえて、各地域の織物生産における女性の役割、米・塩などを含む各生産と祭祀におけるジェンダーの動態を考察していく。織物の技術復元については、国内外の民俗（民族）資料を援用するため、日本、及び東南アジア～南アジア、中南米の腰機で織成された織物の特徴を整理した。腰機は、経糸の張りを腰の動きで緩めながら、布に織る機である。特に、輪状式の無機台腰機は、経糸を揃え、幅を一定に保つための筬がなく、経糸が密に込むことから、その特徴を生かして文様を織り出す技法が発達したことが確認できる。古代日本においては、筬を付けることのできる直状式の有機台腰機が、７世紀後半～８世紀以降、徐々に普及したと考えられる。前代の無機台腰機との技術的相違を注視しつつ、令により広幅に規定された、調庸布などの織成技術を検証するため、管大杼をはじめとする機の各部材について、遺跡出土例に即して復元し、広幅の布の織成に対応する有機台腰機を揃えた。筬（竹筬）の製作については、現在、技術継承の問題を抱えており、既存の筬羽を広幅用に組み替えたもので、対応することとした。今年度は、経糸の整経まで試行し、次年度に腰機の組み立て、布の織成を実践していく予定である。また、古代の女性による織物生産と技術継承・祭祀にかかわる調査として、宗像沖ノ島出土の紡織祭祀にかかわる遺物を確認し、観察・記録を行った。次年度以降、調査を継続する予定である。
