Technologies of Care: Food Allergy Treatments in Japan and the UK

Between April to July 2022 I began exploring the medical literatures on food allergy treatments in Japan and the UK, looking specifically at Oral Immunotherapy Treatments and debates about the current scientific evidence for this treatment and the ethics of using it outside clinical trials. I also explored the treatment guidelines published in Japan and the UK. In addition, I began a literature review of anthropological and sociological research on food allergies to date. From August 1 2022 until March 31 2023 I was working as the Toyota Visiting Professor at the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan, and therefore the research was on hold during this time while I was outside Japan.
