本年度は、本研究の基礎となるデータを収集することに努めた。具体的には、いのちの電話センターで現在行われているスーパービジョンの方法についての、相談員の受け止め方の全体像を明らかにするデータを収集した。そのために、本研究への協力について了承を得ているいのちの電話センター相談員にグループディスカッションを実施した。またそこで得たデータを一層分析するために、個別に相談員に聞き取りの面接を実施し、体験した深刻な逆転移の内容と、その際に必要と感じたサポートに関する事例の報告も得た。以下が得られたそれらのデータの概要である。相談員の誰もが程度の差こそあれ、相談活動で不快、不安、怒りといった逆転移反応を体験していた。そして、各種の講義、訓練、そしてスーパービジョンの中で、相談員全員に定期的に実施されるグループスーパービジョン（参加者5～10人程度、年8～10回程度実施）がこれらの体験の軽減・緩和に最も役立っていた。グループスーパービジョンでの話し合いは、多くの場合、相互の共感と理解を通した相談員間の相互サポートの機会として機能していた。ここで行われることは、苦痛な体験を話す者にも、またそれを傾聴してアドバイス等を提供する者にも、有意義な体験として感じられていた。しかし、相談した内容が他のスーパーバイジーに理解されなかったり、他のスーパーバイジーからの批判や指摘により傷つけられる場合や、このようなことが起こるのではないかという不安から防衛する態度を取る場合には、グループスーパービジョンは逆機能し、むしろ相談員の苦痛や負担感を増す結果となっていた。今後は、相談員の体験する逆転移の全体的な様相について、またグループスーパービジョンには適さず、個別的なスーパービジョンによるサポートが必要とされる逆転移について、その内容や性格を一層詳細に調べる必要があることが明らかとなった。
