本研究の目的は、地域における社会福祉実践に不可欠な地域情報の把握を、デジタル地図上で情報を重ね、記録・管理・分析が可能な地理情報システム（GIS）を活用し、地域アセスメントに有効な手法を開発することである。現地調査（定性的・定量的）による情報収集の後、GISによる可視化を実施する。その成果により、専門機関・専門職、地域住民に還元可能な、「地理情報システム（GIS）を活用した地域アセスメント手法」の提案までを研究の当初の狙いとしている。研究初年度である2022年度（研究計画1年目）は、コロナ禍継続の影響により、本来計画していた複数の現地調査について思うように進展しない状況があった。しかしながら、上記の研究目的に基づき、主に次の2つの研究を実施した。①社会福祉分野の先行研究を基に、地域アセスメントにおける地理情報の援用に関する現状と課題について基礎的整理を行った。結果として、社会福祉実践レベルにおいては、住宅地図等の地理情報を地域アセスメントに一部活用する例は多数存在するが、研究レベルにおいては、地理情報を扱う研究は極めて限定的であることが明らかになった。特に、隣接領域と比較すると、社会福祉分野では電子データ（地理情報）の積極的活用には現段階では至っていないことについても併せて明らかになった。②近年社会問題となっている食料品アクセス問題（買い物弱者問題を含む）について、岡山県X市（中山間地域）を対象とした事例研究を実施した。具体的には、X市内において移動販売事業を進める民間事業者を対象としたヒアリングを実施し、X市全体としての食料品アクセス問題の面的な解決や、民間事業者（小売店）と社会福祉専門機関との連携のあり方について検討を行った。この成果を基に、2023年度（研究計画2年目）、GISを活用した上で、食料品アクセスを主題とした地域アセスメントに取り組む計画である。
