本研究は、地域の持続可能性や魅力・価値にとって重要な要因である地域の安全安心まちづくりに有益な知見を得ることを目的とし、その方策として住宅地型エリアマネジメントを対象に地域の安全安心への効果や導入可能性について制度的・技術的視点から検討するものである。初年度である当該年度においては、地域の安全安心を目的としたエリアマネジメントおよび従来型の地域づくり活動を実施している住宅地域を対象に、①「成熟社会における地域の安全安心に関する影響要因と相互関係の把握」、②「住宅地型エリアマネジメントと従来型地域活動による地域の安全安心まちづくりの方策と効果の比較」の2つのサブテーマについて研究活動を行った。①「成熟社会における地域の安全安心に関する影響要因と相互関係の把握」については、従来型の地域づくり活動を実施している住宅地域を対象に、2件の研究活動を実施した。ひとつは福岡市の小学校区を対象に、小学校児童の保護者へのアンケート調査を行い、交通安全、防犯および校区内での日常生活における安心感/不安感と、校区の環境や地域活動の認知度、住民間のつながりとの定量的関係の把握を試みた。もうひとつは福岡市内の住宅団地を対象に、住民へのアンケート調査と自治会・管理組織へのヒアリングを行い、自治会や管理組織による防災活動・環境整備と、住民のコミュニケーションおよび防災意識との関係について分析を行った。②「住宅地型エリアマネジメントと従来型地域活動による地域の安全安心まちづくりの方策と効果の比較」については、住宅地型エリアマネジメント組織が活動を行っている福岡市のアイランドシティを対象に、アーバンデザインセンターと地区内の2つの自治協議会にヒアリング調査を実施し，活動や組織の実態を明らかにした。さらに、住民にアンケート調査を実施し、組織と活動に対する意識や及ぼす要因を分析した。
