项目摘要

本年度は東寺の寺院組織のうち、一寺の統括組織である惣寺の成立と、院家の構成について検討し、その成果を東京大学中世史研究会、東京大学史学会大会中世史部会、東寺文書研究会にて報告した。惣寺の成立については、鎌倉中後期から南北朝期にかけての十八口供僧を取り上げ、その奉行の制度の変遷について考察した。室町期の供僧組織においては、各組織に一年に一名の年奉行が置かれていたことが知られるが、鎌倉期・南北朝期の十八口供僧においては月ごと・季節ごとに交代する奉行が置かれ、原則として十八口供僧全員が数名ずつ結番されていた。一方で他の組織では代表者のみによる運営方針が採られており、十八口供僧は東寺寺僧にとって、特に重視される組織であった。南北朝後期の寺院法・荘園支配の画期を経て、その地位が廿一口供僧方に移り、惣寺と呼ばれる権力になると結論した。院家の構成については、院家譲状の検討等を通じて、供僧職を重要な経済基盤としたことや、その創建に廿一口供僧方が関わったことなどを論じ、応永・永享期を境として院家と惣寺の一体性が強まったことを示した。中世東寺院家の性質として、惣寺と院家が相互依存的な関係にあったと結論した。現在は以上の成果の論文化を順次進めている。また、東寺観智院が所有したと思われる南北朝期の『天台座主記』写本について、前半部分の翻刻と紹介を行い、東京大学日本史学研究室紀要に掲載した。後半部分は次号に掲載予定である。
