1 本研究は、沖縄県島尻郡豊見城村の口承説話の調査継続・資料整理と研究をめざした。そのため、当初の計画に従って、平成8年8月、奄美沖縄民間文芸研究会大会にて口頭発表を行い、続いて沖縄在住の協力者とともに追跡調査を行った。また、同年12月から翌年1月にかけて再び現地調査を行い、3月23日には伝承文学研究会例会にて口頭発表を予定している。これら2度の調査によって新たな語りを採録し、口承説話に関する様々な情報を得る等、相当な成果を上げることができた。一方、伝承者の高齢化と死亡による伝承の消滅は予想以上に進行しており、この仕事の遂行を急がねばならないことを実感した。2 以上の調査・口頭発表をもとにして、論文「沖縄・豊見城村のキジムナ-話」を執筆し、3月10日現在「沖縄・豊見城村の『瓦屋節由来』」を執筆中である。前者は、妖怪・キジムナ-の話の豊見城村としての特徴についてまとめたものである。これらの話は、字名嘉地の大屋家・字豊見城の内間家等、または慶良間(列島)という土地と深く結び付いていることを確認した。つまり、それらは伝説あるいは伝説に傾いた世間話としての性格を強く示す話群であった。典型例として取り上げたAさんの語りも、そうした伝承圏の中に生じたものであり、かつ語りの枠組みは郷土雑誌『島尻郡誌』(昭和12年刊)に載るキジムナ-話の影響を受けている可能性が高い。現代の口承説話に及ぼす文献の影響を考えるべきことを示す好例であった。現在執筆中の論文では、字翁長の高安家の祖先譚(伝説)と芝居(沖縄芝居)との関わりを論じている。3 こうした調査と資料整理・研究の成果は、『奄美沖縄伝説昔話双書』(全12巻・別巻1、三弥井書店)の中の1巻・豊見城編として公刊されることが決定した。今後約2年間、さらに数回にわたって調査・資料収集をすることになり、資料の購入や勤務地小樽からの旅費等相当なものになると予測される。
