The purpose of this study is to examine what influence anticancer drugs will exercise on telomerase. It has been reported that cancer cells can report cell division endlessly since they express telomerase which makes telomera lengthen. On the other hand, cisplatin, which is the most frequent anticancer drug in every region, was used in this study. in clinical specimens from oral malignant tumor patients, the high. value of telomerase activity were shown in approximate 80% of them. In the in vitro experiment which was used the uterine cancer cell line, A431 and it's resistant cell lines (C-1, C-2), the value of telomerase activity in the resistant cell lines showed higher than that in the original cell line, And in the in vivo experiment which cisplatin was administered to these cell lines tumors made in the back of nude mouse, Group A431 was recognized the decrease of tumors volume. However, cisplatin was ineffective against C-1 and C-2 cell lines for group C-1and C-2 increased tumors volume. On the other hand, inhibition of telomerase activity was observed in group A431, but no telomerase inhibition in group C-1 and C-2. The same studies performed in in vivo and in vitro gave similar results. The result was that there existed a definite correlation between cisplatin sensitivity and telomerase activity, In this study, it is suggested that telomerase activity is useful in the index of cisplatin sensitivity.
