To investigate abnormal sensation such as hypesthesia, paresthesia, etc. observed in natient with peripheral nerve compression injury, we produced animal nerve compression model and observed the reactions of dorsal horn neuronal responses. Experiments were done in anesthetized male Sprague-Dawlev rats. Responses of wide dynamic range (WDR) cells (n=13) in the lumbar dorsal horn to cutaneous stimuli (brush, pressure, pinch) were recorded before and during nerve compression and after releasing of the compression. Depths of the neurons were 500-1200 mu m from the dorsal surface of the spinal cord. Nerve compression was produced by sciatic nerve applied small vessel clamp (120g of pinch force). The damp was attached 30 mm of duration. The results obtained so far, indicate that after the nerve compression, responses to the innocuous stimuli (brush) were decreased but responses to the noxious stimuli (pinch) were not affected. hive mm. after detachment of the nerve clamp, 11 neurons demonstrated increased brush responses temporarily.Present results suggest that in dorsal horn WDR neurons, responses to innocuous stimuli (A BETA )were more likely to he decreas by the nerve compression than those to noxious stimuli (Adelta/C).
