Inspira Pharmaceuticals Limited (Inspira) is a UK Biotechnology SME. It is developing a new drug candidate to treat bacterial biofilm formation in respiratory tract infections (RTIs). Lung biofilms hinder the ability of antibiotics and the body's immune system to overcome the infection. Higher doses of antibiotics are often required which leads to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). There are currently no treatments to specifically prevent or reduce biofilms and AMR infections are expected to be the leading cause of death globally by 2050\. Inspira's innovative drug candidate will be delivered by inhalation and is likely to be cheaper than antibiotics and able to be co-administered with other therapies.
