英文摘要
Project Summary The goal of this application is to obtain support for the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Chemical Toxicology (TOXI) 2021 national meeting program, which will be held August 22-26, 2021, in person in Atlanta, GA and online. The theme for the August 2021 ACS National Meeting is “Resilience of Chemistry” and TOXI programming is aligned with this theme. The TOXI programming will focus on the biological consequences of environmental exposures and how these biological responses contribute to resilience of organisms and systems. The mission of the Division of Chemical Toxicology is to improve human health and public welfare by promoting the understanding of chemical mechanisms that govern disease processes and the toxicity of drugs, environmental agents, and endogenous chemicals. The TOXI division aims to provide a forum for communicating research in chemical toxicology, encourage research in chemical mechanisms of toxicity, and facilitate connections with other ACS technical divisions in areas of mutual scientific interest. The TOXI division also aims to advance professional development of scientists at all levels. Thus, the requested funds will be used to support travel awards and registration fees primarily for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and junior faculty. The program is organized around the theme of biological consequences of environmental exposures. The program includes four thematic symposia, which will feature invited oral presentations by a diverse group of established and emerging investigators with a range of perspectives on each topic. The four thematic symposia are: (1) “Thinking outside the well: Novel assays in drug discovery and development,” co-promoted with the Division of Medicinal Chemistry (2) “Role of gut metabolism in drug disposition and toxicity,” (3) “Environmental toxicants and aging,” and (4) “TOXI at 25: Chemical Toxicology Division anniversary symposium,” featuring former and current division leaders reflecting on the history and future of the field of chemical toxicology on the 25th anniversary of the founding of TOXI. The scientific program is aligned with the mission of NIEHS of discovering “how the environment affects people in order to promote healthier lives.”
