Our SMART Project is to design and manufacture a fully inclusive collection of schoolwear specifically for children with SENSORY and PHYSICAL disabilities. Children with disabilities face multiple challenges in society every day. Children with Sensory Processing Disorder, which comes under the Autism Spectrum, describe their schoolwear as being wrapped in sandpaper or like walking in shoes full of glass. This creates a barrier to their education. Uniform7 has a collection of designs ready to test which could remove this barrier. This will include specially adapted garments with comprehensive specifications. Touch and look will affect sensory needs and accessibility will affect physical needs. We will explore each consumer challenge with our own in-house seamstress to ensure products that reach manufacturing are viable & realistic. We will consider and develop a provision of in-house alterations for less popular adaptions which will result in a truly inclusive provision so no clothing need is overlooked. Our vision is to become a schoolwear industry leader and the FIRST independent company in the UK to provide an exclusive collection & tailored service including branding.
