**AMCS - Development of a new, lightweight, ultra-tough advanced matrix composite material for EV and LiON battery armour**A consequence of the global proliferation of electric vehicles (EVs) has been growth in the number of accidents involving EVs. Whilst this is to be expected, insurance companies are seeing a worrying trend emerge, with more than double the average number of EVs being written-off in minor accidents due to battery damage.AMCS has spent 5-years developing our game-changing sustainable advanced matrix material, for which patent protection is pending, comprised of a CMC-polymer formulation of ceramics and technical fibres.The 18-month project will focus on developing a hard, light, thin, low-cost armour protection material for the EV battery market through sustainable means. We will prototype samples compatible with VW ID3 and ID4 battery models and perform real-life collision and damage testing at UTAC. Furthermore, a Carbon Lifecycle Analysis to prove carbon neutrality will be conducted.
