Experiences of early-stage cervical cancer and fertility sparing surgery: an ethnographic and co-creative approach to social and intimate domains

This study, based in Scotland, will explore how a diagnosis of an early-stage cervical cancer and a treatment preserving fertility is experienced in relation to personal, social, reproductive, and sexual lives, as well as how to improve the patients' experience.The methodology is based on qualitative and ethnographic techniques, following sociological and anthropological theoretical approaches, and a co-creation strategy to elaborate recommendations and appropriate resources to guide public policies and good practice models. Through its interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach, this research aims to extend beyond 'traditional' approaches to the study of health experiences, and to generate other forms of data, opening new paths for research in dialogue across disciplines, sectors, patients and the broader society.
