CEH scientists provide impartial, evidence based advice directly to Government to support policy development and delivery or to respond to emergencies. Policy Development: CEH contributes to the Natural Hazards Partnership to develop risk assessments and mitigation strategies primarily for flood and drought planning. CEH also responds to ad hoc requests by providing independent advice to Parliamentary Assembly committees.Policy Delivery: CEH represents NERC science at fora such as the UK Environmental Observation Framework's management Group. UKEOF seeks to optimise environmental monitoring effort required to meet Government needs. CEH's representation on the Board of Trustees for National Biodiversity Network contributes to our ability to support UKEOF.Policy Development: CEH Chair and coordinate the UK Committee for National and International Hydrology on behalf UK National Commission for UNESCO, to bring together UK expertise to influence international hydrological networks and initiatives to improve people's health and wellbeing. Emergency advice: At times of environmental emergency CEH respond to requests from UK Governments to reduce the severity and impact of e.g. flooding events by providing briefings to COBRA or other relevant national bodies.
