Improving large-scale structure constraints with secondary CMB anisotropies

Description: The distribution of galaxies in the Universe contains valuable information to constrain fundamental physics, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy or the mass of fundamental particles. However, astrophysical uncertainties associated to the physics of galaxy formation prevent us at the moment from realizing the full potential of this cosmological probe. On the other hand, secondary anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background, such as CMB lensing or the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect, contain relatively clean information about the projected distribution of matter and gas. This project will study the extent to which the current limitations of large-scale structure can be overcome when combining these two observational probes. This will be done in the context of next-generation experiments such as LSST, the Simons Observatory and CMB Stage-4.
