Catalysis underpins so many of the key processes that are required for the well-being of society, and designing improved catalysts is a key requirement to solve the major challenges we face with climate change.Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions are recognised as a key driving force for global warming and climate change, constituting a major threat to our planet. Developing new technologies to reduce emissions are now an urgent global challenge requiring innovative solutions. Carbon dioxide can be converted to liquid methanol by reaction with sustainable hydrogen, resourced from water electrolysis using renewable carbon neutral generated electricity. More effective catalysts are required to achieve efficient methanol production rates under mild conditions.This studentship will address this challenge and provide extensive training in catalysis research and its application to mitigating climate change and global warming. It will design new catalysts based on trimetallic nanoparticles which will act as a new class of catalysts for carbon dioxide conversion.
