The Maccabean martyrs (Eleazar, the mother and her seven sons) have had a seminal role in how persecuted communities during Late-Antiquity narrated their story, a role amply explored by scholars. In this martyric narrative, as constructed by members of these ancient communities, Jewish, Christian and Muslim alike, the mother of the seven sons had been almost completely neglected.
