The applicant will contribute to the development of novel power electronics topologies and for solar energy applications. These are examples of technologies that require a highly demanding operation, due to their complex structure and high benchmark specifications in terms of performance, efficiency and overall economic viability. The methodology includes the development of novel electrical configurations, design of laboratory scale prototypes and testing. This research includes the theoretical development of control algorithms with rigorous mathematical validation, software simulation, printed circuit board design, and the implementation of proof-of-concept laboratory experiments. An analysis of the benefits in energy efficiency and power density is also a main outcome of this project.
